Naoshima: a Surreal Island
Located in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan, Naoshima has gained lot of popularity among art devotees from all over the world, since 1987. From that year, Naoshima has become one of the most peculiar art project not only in Japan, scattering unique installations, small galleries and internationally relevant museums all over the archipelago.
On the island, often referred as "Ando Island", since a wide amount of works were designed by the world famous architect Tadao Ando, pieces by Andy Warhol, Claude Monet and Yayoi Kusama are exposed, oftentimes in a nature-connected scenario, which makes them truly suggestive.
Even if Naoshima's population barely reaches 3'000 inhabitants, the small island attracts more than 800'000 tourists every year. However, the inner soul of a fishermen and farmers island is sincerely preserved.
